The Union for the Mediterranean, together with the Catalan Agency for Development Cooperation (ACCD), have launched the project “Women Leading Change: Gender-Responsive Leadership in Mediterranean Universities and Municipalities”.

Universities from Morocco, Lebanon and Syria are invited to express their interest in participating and receiving tailored technical assistance.

This regional project aims to strengthen gender-responsive leadership, institutional reform and collaboration between universities and municipalities, creating sustainable models for inclusive governance and social change in the Southern Mediterranean.

The deadline is 23 January 2026 and all the useful information for the application is available here on the Union for the Mediterranean website : LINK

Applications and any questions related to this call should be sent with subject “Women Leading Change Call” by email to: education@ufmsecretariat.org

A total of 10 universities will be selected across the three countries and special attention will be given to universities that demonstrate a strong institutional commitment to gender equality and leadership reform, as well as existing, planned or desired cooperation with their municipality.

The joint supervision of a thesis is a doctoral program conducted jointly between Hassan II University of Casablanca and an international partner university. The PhD candidate is enrolled in both institutions and benefits from scientific supervision shared by two thesis supervisors, one from each institution.

This approach aims to strengthen international academic cooperation, encourage the mobility of PhD candidate, and enable them, upon defense, to obtain a dual doctoral degree recognized by both universities. The implementation of a joint supervision is based on a formal agreement, joint registration.

The implementation of a joint supervision of a thesis is based on a formal agreement, joint enrollment, alternating research stays between the two institutions, and a defense organized at Hassan II University of Casablanca.

To date, more than 90 PhD candidates are engaged in this prestigious training program.

Located in the heart of the Casablanca-Settat region — Morocco’s main economic hub — the City of Innovation and Technology Transfer (CITT) embodies Hassan II University of Casablanca’s ambition to become a leading player in innovation, applied research, and technology transfer. Approved by the University Council on December 28, 2023, the CITT aims to strengthen synergies between academic research, businesses, and territorial stakeholders.

In line with national and regional priorities in research and innovation, and to contribute to Morocco’s efforts toward autonomy in strategic sectors, the CITT provides a dynamic and collaborative ecosystem dedicated to research valorization, support for innovative projects, and the structuring of a complete innovation chain — from idea to market implementation.

Strategic Objectives

The main goal of the CITT is to provide a shared, high-performance scientific equipment park, capable of carrying out both routine analyses and complex investigations. This infrastructure offers precise solutions to analytical challenges across multiple fields of application, including agri-food, biotechnology, health, chemistry and petrochemistry, environment, water treatment, materials, soils and sediments, pharmaceuticals, as well as advanced industries such as aerospace and automotive Its strategic objectives are to :

Promote the emergence and development of projects with high scientific, technological, or social potential.
Stimulate entrepreneurship, particularly among PhD students and young researchers.
Strengthen the connection between university research and the regional economic fabric.
Structure the entire innovation value chain — from fundamental research to industrialization.
Encourage prototyping, technological maturation, and research valorization.
Pool scientific resources through access to cutting-edge equipment.
Develop training and research programs oriented toward innovation.

Strategic Partners

The CITT operates within a strong partnership framework, collaborating at multiple levels with :

Government institutions : Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation (MESRSI), Ministry of Industry and Commerce (MIC)
Local authorities : Casablanca-Settat Regional Council
Private sector : General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises (CGEM), clusters, and industrial companies
Higher education and research institutions : universities and research centers, both nationally and internationally.

In this spirit, UH2C established the City of Innovation and Technology Transfer (CITT) — an integrated and structured ecosystem dedicated to research valorization, support for innovative entrepreneurship, and the strengthening of ties between academia and socio-economic actors.

The CITT reflects the University’s determination to foster creativity, support the emergence of high-impact solutions, and enhance regional and national competitiveness through innovation. Equipped with cutting-edge infrastructure and shared technological platforms, it provides a collaborative space for researchers, students, entrepreneurs, and industry professionals to meet, experiment, and co-create.

Innovation at UH2C goes beyond laboratories. It is embodied through interdisciplinary projects, strategic partnerships, idea competitions, and a strong commitment to scientific, technological, and social entrepreneurship.

The CITT operates under a clear and participatory governance framework, ensuring strategic coherence, operational efficiency, and continuous evaluation :

Direction : Led by a Director responsible for overall coordination.
Steering Committee : Strategic decision-making and orientation body.
Scientific Council : Advisory body for academic guidance.
Platform Managers : Oversee the technical and organizational management of research facilities.
Evaluation and Continuous Improvement Unit : Ensures quality monitoring and fosters innovation.
Administrative and Technical Services : Provide logistical and operational support.

Overall supervision is carried out by the Research Commission of the University Council.
